Tapestry from scratch in PSP

You will need ULEAD Particles plugin which is free here
and a needle tube which you can download here

Open a new Image with transparent background (500 x 500 pixels)

Set Foreground/Stroke colour to white and turn Background/Fill colour off.

Select elipse drawing tool - line width 15 Anti Alias on - Create as Vector Off - Retain Style Off
and draw from 125,75 to 375,425

Select the white elipse with the magic wand and then apply Effects/Texture Effects/Sculpture with the following settings

Click Selections/Select None and then create a new Raster layer name it Cloth and (in the layer palette) move the Cloth layer below the hoop layer. Now select the hoop layer again and using the magic wand tool select the area inside the hoop.

Click Selections/Modify/Expand and expand the selection by 50

Now Click on Cloth layer and fill the selected area with white. Then Click Effects/Plugins/EyeCandy3.1/Weave with the following settings

Selections/Select None

Now we need to make the cloth look more realistic - Click the arrow beside the deform tool and select mesh warp.

Set Mesh Horizontal and Vertical to 10 and warp the cloth - do it gently so that the cloth inside the hoop doesn't get pulled too much.

Now to shade the cloth. Click on the hoop layer and use the magic wand to select the area outside the hoop then click on the Cloth layer. Choose the Burn Tool and set Size 32 hardness 80 Steps 25 Density 80 Thickness 100 and Opacity 35

Each Stroke with Darken more so the best method is to burn a little and then burn again and keep going to darken it more until you get the shading you want (just in the dips) Work from the hoop outwards.

Now select the Dodge tool and set Size 16 Hardness 25 Density 39 Opacity 58

And highlight the ridges in the same way as you darkened the dips.

Select/Select None

Create a new Raster layer and call it Pattern. Select a pucture tube to use and size it and place it on the Pattern layer. Then Duplicate the Pattern Layer and Rename the copied layer as Stitching - then hide it.

Now make sure the Pattern layer is active and apply the same weave settings as before. Then slide the transparency down to 60 - it now looks as though it is printed on the cloth.

Next make the Stitching layer visible and active and using the magic wand Select the area outside your tube and then Select/Invert Selection so the tube is selected. Now Effects/Plugins/Ulead Effects/Particles and use Rain with the following settings.

Ulead Effects Particles is available for FREE download from www.ulead.com

You now have a stitched effect but you dont want it to look finished so use the eraser to remove some of the stitching and then add an Effects/3D Effects/Drop shadow with vertical 2 horizontal 1 Opacity 50 and Blur 0.

Use the eye dropper to select a colour from the stitching to make the thread.

Add a new raster layer called Thread and with the paintbrush set to Size 4, Hardness 70 draw your loose thread and add a drop shadow with the same settings as before but drop opacity to 35 and Blur to 4

Add a new raster layer called Needle and place the Needle tube (supplied) on it so that it is linked to the thread.
Add the same drop shadow as you did for the thread.

To finish click on the Cloth Layer and play with a drop shadow for the cloth.

All you need now is to add your name and you're finished.
